Wedding Dance Song Chart 2015
In 2015 hundreds of couples booked their wedding dance lessons with us, so our chart is a true reflection of real-life weddings. No download stats or opinions here, this is 100% wedding dance song reality, as danced to by actual couples who got hitched last year.
Top 10 Most Popular First Wedding Dance Songs of 2015
By far the most popular first dance song of 2015 (we are talking landslide victory) was Thinking Out Loud by nicest-man-in-music Ed Sheeran. The song has a rumba beat and most couples have asked for simple yet effective classic dance in hold, with plenty of dips and twirls. For the music video, Ed learnt and performed a beautiful contemporary ballroom duet and some of our couples have asked to be taught the exact dance, step for step. Initially Ed was surprised that his song was storming wedding dance floors, saying to Capital FM "Yeah. With the new one ['Thinking Out Loud'] I'm surprised by how many people are having that as their first dance" We're not surprised Ed, it's glorious, with all it's heart warming romance with amazing choreography.
Our 2015 chart sees last year's winner All Of Me by John Legend being pushed down a spot, as has Happy by Pharrell. How Long Will I Love You has risen up one place, having been 5th in 2014, with Ellie Goulding being the only artist to have two tracks in our Top 10, the other being Your Song, which she famously sang for Prince William and Kate's first wedding dance. Long standing first dance favourites Everything, At Last and Let's Stay Together have also remained very popular in 2015.
Wedding dance song chart 2014 - as chosen by our real life couples
The songs have been complied, counted and verified, it's time to announce the most popular wedding dance songs of 2014, as chosen and danced to by our very own real life wedding dance couples. Last year our choreographers had some great tunes to work with, some classic, some upbeat and some just plain bonkers! It is great to see recently released tunes in the top spots, alongside old favourites and a few surprises.
1. All Of Me by John Legend
Brand new to our chart and straight in at no.1, it's super romantic with a nice, slow tempo. This tender piano power ballad has got 'first dance' written all over it. Legend wrote the song for his wife, so it's honest, sentimental and just gorgeous. It's a fav with the celebs, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West did their first dance to it, as did Strictly Come Dancing finalist Frankie Bridges. A worthy ditty for our top spot.
2. Happy by Pharrell Williams
So who doesn't LOVE this song? It does what it says on the tin, it just makes everyone HAPPY. And that's exactly what wedding days are all about. It's catchy with a mid-beat for a modern first dance. This isn't just a song for the happy couple, it gets every guest involved with the encouragingly repetitive lyric 'clap along'. This is the song to get wedding guests in the mood for dancing! Another newbie, sure to be at the top for years to come.
3. Ho Hey, The Lumineers
Rising two places from 5th place last year, this alternative first dance folk song has an indie vibe, with a slow beat. Heartfelt and laid back, the wedding appropriate lyrics are simple and lovely with 'I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart'. This song is ideal for first dances at rustic barn or tepee festival themed weddings.
4. Time Of My Life, from the film Dirty Dancing
Rising once more, this one has been less popular over the past few years. Its revival is possibly due to the success of the Dirty Dancing theatre tour. The musical takes the story from the film and tells it with passionate romance and sensational dancing. Perhaps it has reminded couples nationwide that No One Leaves Baby In the Corner.
5. How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding
Another new chart entry! Simply beautiful with a steady, beat, ideal for first wedding dances as it is so romantic and lyrically perfect. Ellie's partner is Dougie Poynter from McBusted. Last year she serenaded band mate Danny Jones first dance with Georgia Horsley at their August wedding. What a lucky pair!
The song features on the film About Time, which includes another version sung by Jon Boden, Sam Sweeney and Ben Coleman, this version was also popular amongst our couples in 2014 too.
The Best Of The Rest
Other popular songs chosen by our customers in 2014 were the wedding dance favourites Amazed by Lonestar, Everything by Michael Buble, At Last by Etta James and Let's Stay Together by Al Green. Some couples kept things fresh with newly released numbers such as Sky Full Of Stars by Coldplay, Grow Old With Me by Tom Odell, Be My Forever by Christina Perri featuring Ed Sheeran. The somewhat alternative choice of Video Games by Lana Del Ray was popular, possibly inspired by Fearne Cotton's first wedding dance with Jesse Wood last July. With vintage themed weddings ever popular, first dances followed suit with songs such as Putting On the Ritz by Ella Fitzgerald, L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole and Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You by Andy Williams. Breaking tradition, some couples opted for upbeat wedding dances, choosing Dance With Me Tonight by Olly Murs, I'm A Believer by The Monkees and Pencil Full Of Lead by Paulo Nutini.
Surprise The Reception
Year after year, the craze to shock the guests with an unexpected surprise song with equally crazy dance moves, just keeps growing! In 2014 couples who planned a surprise did it with tunes such as Hypnotic Tango by My Mine, Sexy And I Know It by LMFAO, Bangarang by Skillex and Bare Necessities from Jungle Book.
Father Daughter Wedding Dances
Historically a tradition associated with American weddings, these days many British brides in the UK want to dance with their dads, to signify their appreciation and love. Similarly, many of our customers are non-British citizens, planning on getting married back in their home country, but doing their wedding preparations here in the UK. In 2014 popular Father Daughter wedding dance songs were I Loved Her First by Heartland and That's My Daughter by Loudon Wainwright.
And that concludes our line up of the most popular first wedding dance songs of 2014.
What do you think of the chart? Any surprises? Did your favourite wedding dance song get a top spot?
